Recipe // Overnight French Toast

This is one of my favourite breakfast recipes! I've made it countless times and it's never failed me. Having friends over for breakfast can be a tricky thing. Trying to coordinate eggs and bacon, make coffee, toast, hash browns. You know the drill. on top of getting up too early to make yourself presentable can ruin the whole magical occasion of starting the day off right with people you love.

All that said, this is a recipe that I will continue to make over and over, it's so easy, you can customize it however you like with different fruits or sauces. So we hope you enjoy this first recipe in our Month of Breakfast series. We had such a fun time making this and inviting a few of our best friends Andy and Kir over.

We picked up a few loaves of bread at Matchstick, one of our favourite local cafe's. You can use a big loaf of french bread too, that works amazingly for this recipe.

1. Cut your bread into one-inch-thick slices.

2. Whisk together:

  • 9 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk
  • 2 tbsp of vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder.

Arrange slices of bread on a baking sheet, pour the mixture over the bread, turning them to make sure they're fully coated. Cover and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Arrange the slices in a baking dish and cover with frozen fruit, and sprinkle with more cinnamon and sugar.  Bake for 20-25 minutes.

Thanks to our friends over at Coffee Mail for these delicious beans!
