How to Apply Tanning Lotion

I love to look bronzed all year long, in the summer I tan really easily so I don't have much need for tanning lotion. But if your trying your best to keep your skin out of the sun this summer tanning lotions are a great option to still have that summery glow. I first discovered tanning lotions when I was 13, and I looked like Snooki most of the time... orange and streaky, there are some pretty embarrassing photos! But 9 years later, I have learnt a few tricks that I will pass along.

Start by exfoliating in the shower, reallllllyyyyy exfoliating. Scrub that layer of skin right off! My favourite product is Swedish Dream Sea Salt Soap, it has large flakes of salt in it which helps to gently exfoliate.

Step 1: Moisturize all over. Especially focusing on dry areas like hands, feet, knuckles, knees, elbows, around your mouth and nose.

This is my favourite tanning lotion, Bronzing Self Tanning Lotion from Bath and Body Works. I use "Strike Gold", but if your starting with fair skin I would recommend the gradual tanner "Glow & Steady".

Step 2: Apply the tanning lotion to your moisturized skin in circular motions, making sure you don't miss any spots or you will have a line where your pale skin start. Make sure to get places like the back of your neck (if you wear your hair up), the jaw line, and when applying to your face start and the center and blend outward.

After you have applied the tanning lotion, use a dark cloth and gently rub in a circular motion in spots where it tends to build up. This is areas that naturally grow more hair or have crevasses. Around your mouth, the sides of your nose, near your ears, and between your eyebrows.
